The NP30 is a good pistol for the price. It's frame is wide, but you can use other grips. The rubber grips that come with them are terrible. In many ways it is exactly like the older 1911s, but with fancy controls. I really like the extended controls.
Inside, it is the same - no advancements really. The trigger is okay, but could be a lot better. The pistol is heavy. The sights are the same as the older Chinese 1911A1s. They could be better.
The magazine is unique to the NP30. Para-Ordnance and others do not fit. CZ97 and EAA Witness .45 magazines are very close. Most Norinco magazines you buy work well. I found one factory magazine that did not load. The bullets would arc down at the front and jam. However, the good magazines give no trouble at the range. The pistol is easy to load as the magazine is pointed and the magazine well is large. The only downside to the magazines is that they are a bit soft and so when loaded they bulge on some magazines and so you may have to slam them home. They do drop free easily.
I have done no modifications except the grips. It is a good pistol for the price, but there are others with more potential, like the Norinco Police Model.
